Paris / In the City, Day Two

Tuesday turned out to be another extremely busy day!

We started out at the Musee d'Orsay is another long line, but thankfully we at least had tickets! We decided to get the audiotour and loved listening to the commentary on many of the pieces of art. I love the impressionist movement and really enjoyed seeing so many of the famous pieces I have studied by Manet, Monet, Van Gogh, Degas, Renoir, Cezanne, Seurat, etc.

Not only does the museum house some of the most amazing art, it is housed in what used to be a beautiful train station overlooking the Seine.

Then we were off to the Rodin Museum to see my favorite sculpture, The Kiss, and The Thinker too!

Dream come true!

In one of my art classes at BYU, we studied Rodin and I remember showing a picture of this piece to Kevin and telling him all about it and how much I loved it.

Fast forward to my birthday in 2007: Kevin surprised me with a miniature version!

After gazing wistfully at The Kiss for awhile, we headed off to Hotel des Invalides.  Invalides was built by Louis XIV to house injured soldiers and was later turned into a war Museum and is also where Napoleon is buried.

The museum was absolutely fascinating and had tons of war artifacts including countless suits of armor and weapons of every kind.

For being a little guy, he certainly has a massive tomb!

Since we had a little time before our evening cruise, we headed to the Champs Elysees for some fun people watching, macaroon eating at Laduree (so yummy!), and dinner!

That evening we stayed up late and took a lovely night cruise along the Seine. Since the sun didn't set until 10:30 PM, it made for a late night and a long day! Seeing the city all lit up at night was absolutely worth it though!!

I just love river cruises!
