New Comebacks

So Kevin and I were out the other day with Colin and were asked where he gets his red hair. I get asked this question almost every time we go out and I always say something to the effect of Kevin being Irish, blah, blah, blah, very boring.

Well, Kevin and I were laughing about it and decided to come up with a better "comeback," if you will. Something funny/shocking/mocking etc that, as Kevin says, we can have in our holster when we are asked about the origins of the old-lady-attracting red hair.

Here is what we came up with:

Oh, he's adopted, so...
They didn't tell me at the hospital it was red! Those lying sons of guns! I'm colorblind and they said it was brown when he was born! Now what am I going to do with him?
Well, we didn't think he was getting enough attention at the grocery store with brown hair so we decided to dye it red!
Red hair? (look at Colin and looked shocked) This isn't my kid!
(act indignant) That isn't any of your business!
His father is actually a leprechaun.
Huh, I guess you're right! It is red. I never really noticed before...
I guess he's been eating too many carrots lately!
That's just what happens when two people get drunk on St. Patrick's Day!

15 Months

Look at those eyes! He is completely glazed over!

This is Colin while watching his "peekaboo" app on my iPad. Scary right? He doesn't move, blink, or mind me taking pictures of him while he is transfixed by his favorite little video. Something that we have now learned is that Colin can be entertained for short bursts by TV, videos, and especially the iPad. This is new in the last week. I feel like a horrible parent plopping him in front of the TV when I catch a shower or dry my hair, but I am secretly grateful he can be entertained by something for a few minutes.

Today at his doctors appointment it was a real life saver after his shots!

Anyway, here is a little about Colin at 15 months:

He walks all over now and rarely crawls
He loves to go outside but always tries to run in the street (thankfully we live on a cul-de-sac!), down our hill, or into the bushy green belt behind our house. He doesn't ever just want to stay in our yard!
Like I said, he loves this short "peekaboo" video app I have that he wants to watch over and over. If he sees my iPad, he gets excited and wants to watch it immediately. If I check my email instead, tantrums ensue.
The temper tantrum seems to be my constant "friend." If I tell him "No, Colin, don't bash your toy into the glass" etc a big tantrum follows with crying , throwing himself on the ground, and biting the carpet or whatever is handy (sometimes me...and then another tantrum occurs when he gets his little flick on the cheek!). My favorite is when he literally throws himself on the ground and rolls around kicking. Pretty funny to watch!
He has his own cupboard in the kitchen with some tupperware he can play with...therefore tupperware is always strewn about the floor
He likes to shut doors. He favorite is to go in his bedroom and shut the door and read his books.
He likes to knock on doors, turn on the light/fan switch (and then immediately look up to make sure it is on), throw trash/toys away, and push any buttons he can
He can say mama, dada, and nana! He knows who we are and can say our name to get our attention
He loves to play peekaboo with his blanket, standing around the corner, or by putting his hands on the side of his head. He hasn't quite figured out that they are supposed to go over his eyes.
He knows what it means to "go upstairs" and gets super excited when we open the gate. He likes to be the last one up and close the gate behind him but gets frustrated when his body gets in the way!
When he is getting off the bed or going down the stairs he always backs up a long time. In other words, he turns his body around way too soon and has to crawl backwards a while before he hits the end of the bed or the stairs. Often he backs up in the wrong direction and gets his legs stuck in the banisters!
He can give high fives and knuckle bumps...he just can't switch back and forth between the two very well
He is experimenting with a spoon and fork
He is still pretty picky with food but loves peas, apples, mandarin oranges, cheese, and his oatmeal. He can eat an adult portion of oatmeal faster than you can say banana!
As he is still new to walking he falls...a lot!
He still loves to cuddle right after he wakes up and when he is super tired.
He expects me to hold his bottle for him and pretends to not know how...this act still works on Kevin
He has learned how to fake cry/whine and it works on Kevin!
He is extremely ticklish on his thighs!
He can only go backwards when riding on his truck

Height: 33.5 in (98th percentile)

Weight: 27 lbs (90th percentile)

Head circumference: 70th percentile

We love this little boy so much! Every stage is so fun and every new thing he learns is an adventure!

St Patty's Day!!

Getting Ready

Kevin was gone all week so my mom flew in to hang with me, play with Colin, help me with my Annual St. Patrick's Day Feast, and to help me with some home projects I have been planning.

The results of the decorating are "hidden" among the party pics!

The Party

How cute are their shirts? Andrea is quite crafty and sewed the shirts and they made little Scott a gold coin vest! They won the prize for best outfit, hands down!

They weren't the only ones decked out if St. Patty's Day gear! With a red headed Irish baby you have to go all out! My mom worked so hard on this costume and Colin looked SOOOO adorable!

He served as the official greeter for the party!

As always, we had some amazing treats brought by the attendees!

Despite all his efforts, Kevin didn't quite make it back in time for the party and requested lots of pictures!

Even though we had a babysitter upstairs for Colin and Dylan, Colin liked being part of the party (and hitting poor Scott with Andrea's iPhone...oops!)

A Leprechaun Surprise!

Colin made a surprise appearance and helped complete our St. Patrick's Day surprise for Atticus! I think Colin had just as much fun as Atticus!

Colin started walking a few weeks ago. Such a big accomplishment for our little guy! Kevin was gone again last week so Nana came to play with us! Here's Colin walking and playing peekaboo, his favorite game!

Once Upon a Time...

...there was a little boy who loved to make cookies. He would beg and plead for his mommy to make them for him until one day he learned how to make them for himself. He would spend all Sunday afternoon in the kitchen perfecting his recipes and making delicious cookies of all varieties. He even won awards at the county fair for his cookies. Family members soon started begging him to make them cookies.

Well, time passed and the little boy grew up and soon had his own little boy. One day while the little boy was still too young to know what a cookie was, the now grown up boy decided that it was time to teach this little boy how to make cookies.
