In Seach of the "Great Pumpkin"

On Saturday, the Crawfords invited us to go pumpkin picking at the College Run Farm in Surry and while the weather put a damper on the whole excursion (it was scorching hot!) we had a great time. Of course, every trip to Surry starts with a speedy ferry ride across the James River filled with bird feeding off the back of the boat and cliche phrases like "I'm the King of the World!" (reference to Titanic...I didn't say it out loud, but I always think it!). I love riding the ferry!

After a short meandering drive through gorgeous countryside, we checked in with the farm and to my surprise were handed cutting shears...I guess I didn't realize that we would actually get to PICK the pumpkin! How cool is that? I just assumed that we would choose from already snipped overpriced pumpkins like most patches (that's my California upbringing coming out...not that we ever went to the fancy pumpkin patches with the petting zoos and the pony rides as a child because the pumpkins were always SOOO much cheaper at the grocery store). I guess that's the difference between a farm and a patch!

Aptly named Cinderella Pumpkins
The search is on!

Alas! We've found our pumpkin!

Snip!
Super proud pumpkin pickers!
The Crawford's adorable boys, Sam and Liam, kept things entertaining in the sweltering heat! Sam kept playing our pumpkins like drums and staking them like blocks!
A Liam-sized pumpkin...
I think Sam was frustrated that this "blocks" didn't stack right!

A Quick Trip to Mecca

Last weekend Kevin and I flew out to Salt Lake City for his good friend Robert's wedding. Kevin and Robert grew up together in Cedar City and then roomed together in Provo while in college. Robert was always good for a laugh and never failed to delight us with his crazy antics and overly excited exclamations and rants. Ah...good times!

Thankfully, while we were in town we had a little bit of time (a very little bit) to see some friends:

Chrisy and Will Hains
(friends from 1L year here in Williamsburg while Will was getting his Masters at W&M)
Jessica (Rogers) Ivins [college roommate], Lindsey (Brown) Bell [college roommate], me, Valerie (Chapman) Cope [cousin and college roommate], and Kelly (Chapman) Wright [cousin]
Most adorable pregnant ladies in the world!

It was SOOOOO much fun to see all of you! I miss you all a ton and am so glad we can keep in touch!

It's Official!

No, Kevin and I aren't having a baby...but we are officially moving to Dallas! After much deliberation, Kevin has decided to officially accept his offer at the first law firm he worked for this summer - Gibson, Dunn, and Crutcher LLP. To those outside the law school world, this may seem a bit premature considering he won't graduate until May, but thankfully the job search process is finished and we can now start looking for an apartment.

I've had a few people ask what will happen after graduation, so to those curious about our plans in the near future, let me give you a quick run through: Kevin will graduate from The College of William and Mary School of Law in May 2009, we will move to an apartment in Dallas soon thereafter and Kevin will begin studying for the bar, Kevin will take the bar in late July, and then we will spend the month of August travelling and enjoying a little bit of freedom before he starts work next September . We are planning on saving up for a year or so to buy a house, so hopefully by fall 2010 we will be homeowners!

Kevin and I feel very blessed and are thrilled about the firm...we couldn't be more excited, but it comes with mixed emotions as well. We absolutely love Williamsburg and the friends we have made here - it will be very difficult to leave and it makes me want to cry when I think about it! Sadly, the time will come when Kevin and I pack up our little apartment and move west, but thankfully, through emailing, visiting, calling, and especially blogging I hope that we can all stay in touch!

Tides Game

Sorry I haven't updated in FOREVER!

About a month ago, Kevin and I drove down to Norfolk to watch the Tides play and had a ton of fun...the seats were great, the weather was pleasant, and the baseball stadium food really hit the spot - hotdogs and dippin' dots...yum!

Hawaii 8.0 - IAO Valley

On our last day on the Valley Isle, we trekked up to IAO Valley to see "the needle"...a beautiful site as you can see!

Kevin's thoughts: "I REALLY don't want to go back to school!"
