Around Town...

Will Colin go to law school one day?

Our apartment :)

Yorktown Beach

While we decided not to hit the Yorktown battlefield, walking down Yorktown Beach was just what we needed!

It was a little chilly, but Colin wanted to get his feet in the water just the same...hence the no-pants shots!

Yankee Candle

Colin is always cracking us up!

Williamsburg is home to one of the two flagship Yankee Candle stores.  It is HUGE!

They have the candle emporium, a fudge shop, a Christmas store where it "snows" every 4 minutes, and a toy store, and a place where they count down to Christmas all year round!

This summer, I taught Colin how to smell candles, and he had the best time smelling all of the many scents Yankee Candle has to offer!

It's snowing!

Santa was even there!

Shoom!

The timeshare resort we stayed at had a pretty awesome pool with basketball hoops, fountains, and jetted areas.  Colin loved playing "shoom" (the sound effect he makes when he makes a basket) with his daddy!

His new favorite thing is to jump off ledges, whether you are ready or not!

Jamestown

Jamestown is a very hands on type of historical site and we knew that between the boats and the things to touch and see, Colin would have fun.

What I didn't expect was how much he liked hanging out in the Indian Village and sitting on the furs in the wigwams.  There were 6 or so huts, all similarly decorated, and he just loved sitting there petting the furs and barking (we had explained the wolf furs were doggies).

Colin rarely smiles in a picture!

Grinding corn

Look how happy he looks!

 Fanning the flames

This is how I feel like we spent most of the vacation:

Can we just lay him down for a nap here please?

Carter Mountain Orchard

Picking apples in the mountains...is there anything more "fall-like" than that?  In Charlottesville, there is an amazing orchard that also sells to-die-for apple cider and apple cider donuts.  I think we made the 2 hour trip just for the donuts, honestly, because there were no apples to be picked!!

Thankfully, Colin had fun looking!

Only rotten apples on the ground :(

We found an apple to pick, but it turned out to be rotten too!

We all enjoyed the donuts, though!

One of the other apple patrons brought his gorgeous Great Dane with him...yeah, we had to get a picture!

Surrey Ferry and Pumpkin Picking

A boat ride, feeding birds, running around a field, and eating treats...yeah, we pretty much rock at combining  a child's favorite activities into one outing!

To get from Williamsburg to Surrey, you have to take a ferry and cross the James River.  If I were from Surrey (which has nothing and requires driving or ferrying to go to the grocery store), this would drive me nuts because it takes at least a half hour to do if you hit the ferry just as it is loading...otherwise it can take an hour.  A bridge would really be more efficient!  But since we don't live in Surrey, we love to take the ferry and Colin loved it too!

Seriously, he was just annoyed that he had to stop playing to take a picture!

Just like many years ago when we each had fewer or no children, we went with the Crawfords on our expedition.  Kelly was behind the camera and I wish I got at least one picture with her!  Darn!

After our trip to the Arboretum, Colin was familiar with pumpkins and how much fun they are to throw and play with...he just couldn't figure out why all of these were still attached to the ground!

A free pumpkin!
